About Impossible Colors:
Impossible Colors is a Chicago-based record label dedicated to releasing independent music in limited-edition runs, mostly on cassette. We're interested in exploring ways that writing and sharing music can be a force for positive change in our community. We co-sponsor the annual Frontwoman Fest, which benefits Girls Rock! Chicago, a non-profit that empowers young women through music education. In December 2016, we're releasing a mixtape of protest music to benefit the Chicago Community Bond Fund, which is dedicated to ending the cash bond system in Cook County and helping vulnerable people accused of crimes get out of jail while awaiting trial. We're also co-sponsoring several benefit shows for local organizations that fight various forms of oppression and provide needed resources. Impossible Colors is curated and run by civil rights lawyer (and part-time frontwoman of Axons) Adele Nicholas.
We have two subscription-based series. First, the Impossible Colors Club is a series of 12 split cassingles from Chicago-based bands and artists. Subscriptions are sold out, but individual copies of most tapes are still available here.
We are also in the midst of releasing a series of post card singles called Paper Portals in collaboration with Chicago artist Kriss Stress. Subscribers get 24 post cards mailed to an address of their choice with original artwork and a link to download an exclusive, unreleased song from a band we love. Many great artists are already on board and subscriptions are available now.
